This past month, Hurricane Sandy devastated the Eastern seaboard leaving homes and businesses severely damaged, and basements, storage spaces, and first floors flooded by water. In some areas, the water line reached nearly five feet. The Conservation Center was called onsite to New York City on October 29th, where we assisted both businesses and home owners with damaged art, heirlooms, and unique items affected by the flood waters. The Center's onsite crews worked to carefully remove and triage over two thousand works of art in order to mitigate additional damage.
It is an honor to assist families and businesses in need during times of unfortunate disaster, and we are pleased to offer our assistance in any way we can to help preserve items that hold importance and meaning to the people affected.
Our Disaster Response teams have been called upon during natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the California Wildfires of 2007, and the Iowa Floods of 2008, and to the sites of major corporate losses like the fire at LaSalle Bank’s corporate headquarters in Chicago, 2004. For almost 30 years, The Center has provided Disaster Response services for art collections large and small throughout the country.
