Open House Chicago 2019 a Busy Success for The Center
On October 19th, The Conservation Center opened it’s doors to the public as a part of Open House Chicago, and 1,296 people came rushing inside.
Open House Chicago, or OHC, is a free annual festival presented by the Chicago Architecture Center that offers behind-the-scenes access to more than 350 buildings across Chicago. Spaces that the public generally doesn’t have access to open up - anywhere from corporate skyscrapers to churches to industrial facilities. More information about OHC is available here: https://openhousechicago.org/
This year, a team of conservators, art handlers, and admins manned The Center, welcoming in guests to interact with projects, ask questions, and see what it is we do here in the laboratories. Both of our laboratory spaces were open: the Painting, Framing, and Paper facilities upstairs, and Furniture, Objects and Sculpture downstairs. Though there were occasionally lines out the door, the guests were polite, inquisitive, and exciting to talk to.
Said Heather Becker, CEO of The Center: “Despite the masses of people, everything ran extremely smoothly. I greeted people at the door and also gathered feedback as they left and the resounding positive remarks were amazing. Our participation was important for the community and for our business. The entire experience made me very proud of our team, facility, and the talented work we do, which was definitely appreciated by those attending.”
See you next year during OHC!
